Map Relief

Artist Statement:
The map that I chose to create is one that represents my memories of my home state. I grew up in North Carolina, in the Piedmont region. The mountains are on one side of me, and the coast is on the other. In two hours I can see the beautiful views from the top of a mountain. In four hours I can enjoy the relaxing sound of ocean waves. I chose the color scheme as a representation of who I am. While most people see blue as being a melancholy, sad color, it is a happy one for me. I have a visual processing disorder, that causes many difficulties in life, and sometimes in my art as well, but the color blue actually helps me to see better. Because this particular color has helped me in many was, it has become a symbol of hope to me personally. It symbolizes hope that everything will work out, and that help will always be there if you need it. I chose to layer my map using the stacking method to create a topographical map that could better display the heights and depths of the mountains and ocean in my home state.
